We lived at 31 Sterling Avenue between 1989 and 1996. My dad built the extension to take it from a 2 bedroom house to a possibly 5 bedroom house (using some of the downstairs rooms as bedrooms - we were a family of 9!). My grandad built and owned 33 Sterling Avenue.
The house was first surveyed on maps in 1961, so it was built around that time. In the 1957 map you can see that the whole area was woodland before these houses were built and was known as "Palace Wood", which is also the name of the local primary school in Ash Grove. Perhaps this is why the surrounding streets to the north (Maple, Ash, Hazel, Poplar, etc) were given tree names as they were originally built close to woodland. 1957 map: https://maps.nls.uk/view/103043334 1961 map: https://maps.nls.uk/view/144907450
