Huthwaite Hall

building

A Georgian country house built in 1748, designed by the architect John Carr of York for John Cockshutt, owner of the Wortley Ironworks. It was Carr's earliest surviving design and only his second commission overall - he went on to design Harewood House and many other great Yorkshire houses. The hall is built of coursed squared stone with a Welsh slate roof, has three storeys and five bays with a symmetrical facade. Grade II* listed, it is the most architecturally significant building in the parish.
