John Carr

1723 - 1807

Architect

A prominent Georgian architect based in York who was 'for more than half a century the principal architect practising in Yorkshire and the north of England'. Huthwaite Hall in Thurgoland (1748) was his earliest surviving design and only his second commission. He went on to design Harewood House, Heath Hall, and many other great houses across northern England.
